01Before the first job

Why do I have to apply instead of just buying it?
We run the certification in small groups so every sitter gets a real reply and we can keep the standard high. A person reads your application and comes back within 12 hours.
Does applying cost anything?
No. There is no payment and no commitment at the application stage. The $45 program fee only comes up once you have been offered a place.
How old do I need to be?
Thirteen and up. If you are under 18, apply using a parent or guardian’s email so they can approve your place.
How long does the training take?
About two and a half hours of video across twelve classes, plus the test. Most people spread it over a few evenings. There is no deadline once you start.
What is on the test?
Multiple choice across all twelve classes. You need 90% to pass, and there are eight safety questions you have to get right no matter what your overall score is. You can retake it.
What do parents actually see?
A page on this site with your name, that you passed, when you passed and when it expires. They can look it up in seconds. They never see your score.
How long is it valid?
Two years. We email you before it runs out so you can renew rather than start again.
What if I am not accepted?
We will tell you within 12 hours either way, and if the timing is the issue we will tell you when the next group opens.
