The generator

Put your name in. Take twelve out.

Before you commit

Five checks that take ten minutes.

  1. Search it in quotes. If a daycare two towns over already uses it, pick another. You do not want a parent finding them when they meant you.
  2. Check the handle is free on whichever platform you will actually use. A name you cannot use as a handle causes friction forever.
  3. Say it out loud on the phone. If you have to spell it, it is the wrong name. This is the test most names fail.
  4. Do not put your last name in it. You are likely a minor and this goes on flyers and public profiles. First name only.
  5. Avoid anything with an age in it. “Teen Sitters” is accurate at fifteen and a problem at nineteen. Names should still fit in three years.
Honestly

You probably do not need one yet.

A name is not what gets you hired. For your first ten or twenty jobs, your own first name plus what you can do beats any brand. Families are hiring a person, not a company, and a fifteen-year-old with a logo can read as trying too hard.

A name starts to earn its keep when you have several regular families, you are handing out cards, you are invoicing rather than taking cash at the door, and you want the whole thing to look like a business because it has become one. That is the point at which it stops being decoration. There is more on that transition in how to start a babysitting business.

A name is the easy part. Getting paid properly is not.

Six classes on setting a rate and holding it, writing a bio that gets replies, using a contract, sending an invoice and asking for a raise. Ten templates you keep for good.
